December 2011
How the time flies! It seems like the year just started, and yet it’s almost over already. Please allow us to share some of the events of the past year.
We spent Christmas 2010 in Webster, NY. Chris and Sarah surprised us on Christmas Eve with the news of their engagement. The wedding is planned for September of 2012, at an artisan’s gallery in Rochester, NY. Their planning is well under way and everyone is looking forward to the wedding. This year we’ll be back in Seattle for Christmas.
In February we spent a week in Florida. The first part of the week was spent on the gulf coast with Tom and Sandy Wadsworth and Mitch and Angie Sadar, old friends of ours. At the end of the week we went to the Miami Boat Show, one of the best shows in the country. Hopefully we’ll do all of that again in 2012.
In early June Sue spent a few days in Seattle with Chris and Sarah. Sarah was graduating from the University of Washington with a Master’s in Education. Sue was able to attend the commencement, and also helped in picking a wedding dress.
Sailing season was uneventful. We sailed to Port Sanilac with friends for the Fourth of July weekend. They have a fantastic fireworks display. The rest of the season was spent day sailing on southern Lake Huron.
Tim didn’t do any long distance sailing this year. Instead, in mid-October he had surgery to totally replace his right knee. He had been suffering from severe arthritis for several years. The results are excellent: just two months after his surgery he is walking without a limp, and negotiating stairs gets easier every day.
We also got a new kitten in October. He’s a gray mixed breed and his name is Grayson. He took good care of Tim while he was laid up and we call him “therapy cat.” He and Nigel, our two year old black cat, are best friends.
Tim turned 60 years old in December. As is her custom on decade birthdays, Sue threw him a wonderful party. It was fun to have so many of our friends help him celebrate.
Chris and Sarah are doing well in Seattle. Sarah started a new job as an athletic trainer for Bellevue High School. In early December their football team won the state championship for the fourth straight year. Business at Socrata is improving and their projects are winning industry awards.
Our businesses continue to keep us busy. Tim’s marine electronics business had a good year and he has a couple of interesting projects in the pipeline for next year. Sue’s embroidery business is probably having its best year ever, and she is busy making horse treats for the holiday season.
It has been a satisfying and productive year for us, and we hope for you too. Best wishes for an enjoyable holiday season, and for a challenging and rewarding new year. If your travels find you in the Detroit area, please stop and see us.
